  • This is the latest edition of News and Notes.

  • The Home & School will be held tomorrow, Wednesday, March 10th at 7 pm. Please join us as we review school information and also as we welcome Jim Rogers as our guest speaker. A flyer about the evening is available if you click here. The Homeroom with the highest percentage attendance will receive a pizza party so your kids will be pushing you out the door to get to the meeting.

  • Calendar change: The April First Friday mass has been rescheduled for Friday, April 16th at
    9 am. We welcome all to join.

  • The deadline for the Mercy Hospice Casseroles is tomorrow, March 10th. Please make sure your casseroles are in the freezer next to the Parish Center kitchen. If you don't have time to cook, you can run to the store and donate breakfast foods like bacon, etc. Please check the information in the church bulletin for suggestions.


  • Join us this Saturday, March 13, 2010 for  the 5th Annual Miriam Quigley Dance-A-Thon! Eagles Swoop, Cheerleaders, ice cream eating contest, the Stomp, Chio from Wired 96.5, games, dancing, food and more! Check out the following links: the Volunteer Sheet, our Children's Information sheet, the Kids Sponsor Sheet and the Corporate Sponsor Sheet. This has been a wonderful event for our children, who have learned over the past few years how to help children just like themselves.

    The highlight of the event will be a pie throwing contest with Mr. Tosti and many of the SKS coaches who have graciously volunteered as targets. Are they tough at practice? Now's your chance... We also have a few teachers who have stepped up to the challenge. We can only imagine how long the line will be....

    The Boathouse has also generously offered special programs at the restaurant to once again help with our fundraising efforts. You can see a list of their specials on the flyer which is available here. 

  • Spring is around the corner and that means the 8th grade Bake Sale is here. Please support their efforts on March 20th and 21st after all the masses. You can help by donating a baked good or buying some for your family and yourself! The 8th grade class is raising funds for their eighth grade end of year party, the last event they will have as a class at SKS.   • "Close Encounters" from Msgr. Close is available here from this past Sunday.


  • The SKS Irish Dancers will be participating in St. Patrick's Day Parades in Springfield (Saturday March 13, 12pm start) and Philadelphia (Sunday, March 13th, 12 pm start). If you can't get to the parades you can watch the dance troupe on TV! CBS will cover the Philadelphia parade from 12- 3:30 pm. Our dancers will perform one of their routines in front of the Art Museum at the end of the parade route. Look for the SKS banner and you'll see some mighty fine steppin'!!

    Also, the Family Recital will be held in the Parish Center on Thursday, March 18th at 6:30 pm. All are welcome for the show and refreshments afterwards.

  • It's that time again...join last year's 630 satisfied customers and sink your teeth into our delicious Grand Italian Hoagie. Your hoagie will be made FRESH on Saturday, March 27th and be ready for pick up at St. Katharine's cafeteria between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm. Just print and complete this form and return it with payment to the SKS office by Monday, March 22nd. All proceeds benefit Boy Scout Troop 219 sponsored by St. Katharine of Siena Parish.   • Archbishop John Carroll is giving the seventh grade practice test on Saturday, March 20th from 8 am to 11 am for any interested seventh grade students. You can get more information and download a copy of the application form on their web page at www.jcarroll.org .

  • Are you getting ready for Easter already? We
    have Dress Down passes available for the
    students that can magically show up in their baskets on Easter. You can print out the order form and return it directly to Mrs. DePetris and the passes will be returned to you in a
    confidential envelope, so they will be a surprise for the kids!!!

  • Join Hoops for Hope to benefit the Jim "Bo" Boyle scholarship fund at the Haverford School on Sunday, March 28th from 1 - 3 pm.  The event information is available here and the registration form is available here.

  • Malvern Prep is holding their 7th  grade practice test on Saturday, March 27th from
    8:30 am to 12 noon. You can register online at
    www.malvernprep.org .

  • Spring Cultural Arts Night will be on Thursday, April 29, 2010.  This is a schoolwide event that showcases the talents of all of our students. Please read the information flyer here from Mrs. D'Agostino.



  • Reminder, reminder, reminder: Terra Nova tests will be administered every day this week for all students.  Please make sure your children have a good night's sleep, a good breakfast, and plenty of pencils!  

  • Our Scholastic Book Fair is Monday, March 22 to 26. Mrs. Killen is looking for volunteers to help with the sales. If interested, please notify Mrs. Killen at lkillen@stkatharineofsienaschool.org or the school office with your availability, either morning or afternoon. Last year we sold over 1,300 books. Thank you for helping our students learn to love to read!

  • There is Financial Aid available for next year to cover tuition costs at SKS. The application is available  if you click here. The application deadline is April 15, 2010. The aid is funded through the BLOCS program. Should you have any questions about the program or the application process, please contact Mr. Tosti at school.

  • As part of our ongoing Archdiocesan celebration of the Year of the Priest, a Concert of Sacred Music will be presented on Thursday, March 25, 2010 - the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord - at 7:30 pm in the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul. The concert will feature the Archdiocesan Secondary Chorus, the Keystone State Boys Choir and the Philadelphia Priest Singers, a group of forty priests from our Archdiocese who will perform beloved pieces of music from their time at St. Charles Seminary.   • Summer Camps are just around the corner!
    Here are a few programs available to our families. We will post more as the information comes in:

    Bud Tosti Basketball Camp - in its 8th year, this has been a very popular camp for children ages 6-15. Campers are grouped according to age and ability. Click here for flyer and registration.

    Nature Camp - offered by Mr. Gavin and Mr. Heacock that explores all facets of nature including geology, animals, weather and more. Click here for flyer and registration form.

    Around the World Camp - kids in grades K-4 are welcome to join Mrs. Nord, Mrs. Ryan and Mrs. Thornton with arts, crafts, stories, cooking and more as they explore Around the World and Across the USA. Click here for flyer and registration information.

    Cubby Basketball Camp -  the famous Mary Ann Crowe/Marita Finley basketball camp for kids entering grades K, 1st or 2nd in September 2010. Space is limited to the first 35 campers so print out your registration form here and return to Mrs. Crowe.

    I Got Game Camp - the sequel to the famous Crowe/Finley camp dynasty. This basketball camp is for girls entering grades 3 through 8 in September 2010. All campers will learn fundamental skills and improve basic techniques to strengthen their game. To register you can print the registration form here and mail it back to Mrs. Crowe.

  • The Office for Youth and Young Adults of the Archdiocese is hosting Camp Overbrook this summer at St. Charles Seminary for children ages 6-12. The day's activities include arts, crafts, music, sports, games, waterpark and more. The program areas on each day reflect an emphasis on a different world cultures.
